Why is a Hairdressers Head Massage so Good?

Updated: Jan 12, 2022

Our clients often comment that the best part of their visit to Freestyle is the head massage. “It just feels so good!”. There are so many unexpected benefits to having a scalp massage at the hairdressers.

Our scalp is the first place to start for healthy hair growth. Think of it as your hair’s powerhouse. Your scalp supplies healthy growing hair with everything it needs to thrive.

Have you ever noticed that when you’re unwell, your hair reflects your poor health?

Dull hair that is prone to breaking doesn’t naturally get that way. It’s from the way we treat it or neglect it. Our hair is exposed to pollution, over-brushing or styling, colouring, perming, heat from hairdryers, straighteners and curlers. Plus, chemicals – even from using the wrong shampoos and conditioners.

When your scalp skin is unhealthy, your body’s first priority is to fix the skin. Resources are diverted from your hair to the scalp, such as energy and nutrients. These less critical activities include hair growth. The first signs of scalp problems are inflammation or open sores. Dehydration of the scalp can cause itchy ness, flakes or dandruff.

The good news is, we can control and improve our hairs health.

It’s time to treat your scalp right and make a difference. Think of it as future-proofing your hair. If you take care of your scalp now, you’ll be helping to achieve gorgeous, healthy-looking hair in the future. You can start today.

Some of these include turning down the heat on your hair appliances and using a cool rinse. Eating a healthy diet can also improve the quality of our scalp and hair, as well as drinking plenty of water. Using salon-quality products at home is also essential. Our range is affordable and can even be purchased online, as well as in the salon.

On your next visit, add on a 10-minute scalp massage for £5.00

A massage in the hair salon is better than one you can do at home. Why? We have very sensitive nerve endings in our fingertips. When you wash your own hair, the sensations are absorbed by your hands. When your hairdresser cleans your hair and massages your scalp, all you feel is the massage. You can concentrate on the lovely sensations, and of course, lying back helps with relaxation.

Studies have shown that using massage in your hair care regime can increase endorphins and serotonin within the body. These are the chemicals that help to lift your mood and help to reduce stress. It also stimulates blood circulation to the hair follicles, providing nutrition and strengthening the hair shaft and roots, resulting in healthier hair.

You’re going to love our scalp massage, and you have three to choose from. Not sure which one to pick? No problem, our stylists can advise and select the right one for you.

1. Dry scalp treatment

The Moroccan oil dry scalp treatment contains rich argan oil (infused with lavender and geranium). Like all of our products, it’s sulphate and paraben-free and helps to nourish and soothe the skin. It also gives a dose of vitality and shine.

2. Oily scalp treatment

Containing argan oil and ginger, the Moroccan oil treatment for an oily scalp helps correct the imbalance of oily hair and add future prevention. It is sulphate and paraben-free and soothes the scalp.

3. Dandruff treatment

The eucalyptus antiseptic treatment also contains tea tree. Along with being sulphate and paraben-free, it is vegan friendly too. It relives a dry and itchy scalp caused by dandruff.

Want to add on a scalp massage treatment? Just ask your stylist before you head to the basin. It takes an additional 10-minutes and costs £5.

You could also add on a Shine Shot or Repair Mask. Also, £5 each.
