Treforest has plenty to offer with beautiful walks, heritage and historic tourist attractions. If you’d like to go shopping before or after your visit to the salon or are looking for fun things to do nearby, there’s a lot more to the area than you may think.
From checking out the stunning countryside to discovering one of the delicious eateries, Treforest in Rhondda Cynon Taf has something for everyone. Shopping near Treforest UK
Freestyle Hair Design is on Park Street, opposite Treforest Train Station. Treforest is often considered the student hub, but it is an ideal place to go shopping, with many independent shops itching for people to visit.
Lockdown taught us the importance of shopping locally, but it doesn’t mean heading to your nearest town centre. It’s also noting all the different, varied and unique businesses on our doorstep. Sometimes, you find little gems in the most unlikely places… including Treforest.

Bouquets, arrangements and flowers for all occasions are available for delivery or collection at Seasons Florist. Established in 1986, it has countless years of experience in creating handmade designs.
Treforest Hardware Store
The building has been a hardware store since as far back as 1904. Treforest Hardware is the best place to get all the supplies for your DIY and home improvements. From protective clothing to paint and varnishes to gardening and tools.
Treforest Pharmacy
Treforest Pharmacy is there to help you with your ailments, from cold and flu remedies in the winter to antihistamines and hay fever antidotes in the summer.
Llew’s Paws
Llew’s Paws is a dog groomer that offers a range of services to maintain the health and well-being of your dog’s fur. Why not book an appointment for your dog whilst you’re visiting Freestyle? You’ll both leave with a shine and bounce in your hair.
ARTic
The community hub ARTic is where you’ll never find the same thing twice. The team here sell local artwork, books, and handcrafted items and promotes local music. You could buy pillows, cooking aprons, tote bags, picture frames and decorations at Christmas.
Faking It
When you’ve got great hair, you may want some beauty services to make you feel whole too. Faking It has sunbeds and offers various treatments, including semi-permanent eyelashes, eyebrows and make-up.
World of Groggs
You can’t stop by without visiting the Grogg Shop. See the fantastic selection of caricature-style statuettes, which all have their own personality. There’s nowhere else quite like it. Nestled between houses and businesses in Treforest, you’ll find a bright, red building brimming with sporting nostalgia.
Places to Eat
Baguette Me Not
Hungry? Fresh baguettes with a variety of filings are made to order. It’s known for serving the best breakfast, which is excellent value, plus signature sandwiches such as steak or a club, burgers and paninis.
Olive’s Attic
Olive’s Attic coffee shop is on Fothergill Street, a minute’s walk from Freestyle Hair Design. There are full breakfasts, soup, sandwiches, quiche, salad, and even Sunday lunch. Don’t forget to have a slice of the mouth-watering homemade cakes.
Premier Shop
Every community needs a corner shop. Premier is at the top of Park Street, where you can do your top-up shop. Bread, milk, crisps and chocolate, it’s all here. The Post Office is also here, so you can do cash withdrawals and deposits, return parcels and send letters.
Coffee 4 You
Coffee 4 You is a coffee shop based at Four Clean Wheels on Broadway in Pontypridd. From drip cakes to cupcakes, to brownies and cookies, there are plenty of treats to help fix any sweet cravings. Why not get your car washed, and whilst you wait, enjoy something delicious?
Otley Brewpub and Kitchen
A little further afield, on Forest Road, is the Otley Arms. Here street food meets homebrewed craft beer. There are lots of delicacies to cover your cravings, from Mexican tacos to Japanese noodles. In the winter, you can warm up by the log fire; in the summer, bask in the sunshine in the courtyard. Alongside food, there are craft beers and ciders.
Pontypridd Indoor Market
Pontypridd Market has lots to offer, from cafes to sweet stalls and clothes shops. It’s been there since 1805. There are plenty of places to get something to eat, including Janet’s Kitchen, which draws people from afar to try her authentic Northern Chinese food, plus Tucker’s Bakery, famed for their fresh bread.
Of course, from here, you can take a dip in the Ponty Lido in Ynysangharad Park. The outdoor pool has been restored to its former glory, with 1920s turnstiles and wooden cubicles. The park is a huge open space with tennis courts and a cricket pitch. Stop at the statue of James James and Evan James, who wrote the Welsh national anthem.
Treforest Walks
Barry Sidings Countryside Park
Whilst it’s also lovely for a walk, you can also stargaze at the popular spot. The trails at Barry Sidings take you into the surrounding mountains. Bring our mountain bike, hire one, or walk the forestry tracks instead. You can also have a picnic or BBQ, or visit the café instead. Children will love the playground, with swings, climbing frames and slides.
Taff Trail
Cycle it, run it, walk it – whatever you fancy. See the beauty that surrounds us and take it all in. The Taff Trial runs from Cardiff Bay to Brecon. The section along Treforest and Pontypridd has more than enough lovely spots to clear your head.
Rhondda Heritage Park
If you’d like to know what life was like in the local mining communities. Rhondda Heritage Park is in Trehafod between Pontypridd and Porth and is a truly unique experience. You can hear what life was like underground with a tour every hour. As part of the tour, you’ll also ride Dram! a virtual ride with a few surprises in store. Tickets can be purchased online in advance.
