Pontypridd, a town that seamlessly blends history, nature, and quirky activities, is waiting to be explored. So, don your sunscreen, grab your shades, and let's dive into the unique charm of Pontypridd this summer!

1. Explore Ynysangharad War Memorial Park

The jewel of Pontypridd: Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. It's the ideal spot to unwind with its beautifully manicured gardens, tennis courts, and even a lido for those scorching summer days. The best time to visit is in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.

This summer, it's hosting lots of exciting events. Alongside the weekly Park Run and Junior Park Run, there's the annual food festival, The Big Welsh Bite. However, it's taking a break in 2024, as the town will be hosting the Eisteddfod from the 3 to the 10 August. Later in the summer, there will be a Teddy Bears Picnic, which is a free event for all.

2. Go on a Taff Trail Adventure

Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or prefer a gentle amble, the Taff Trail offers stunning water views and of the surrounding countryside. It's also accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, making it a great option for families with young children or elderly members.

3. Discover Local History at the Pontypridd Museum

How much do you know about Pontypridd? Pop into the Pontypridd Museum, housed in a quaint former chapel. It's a treasure trove of local history, showcasing everything from the town's industrial past to its rich musical heritage. Events are for all ages throughout the summer, plus regular coffee mornings.

4. Catch a Show at the Muni Arts Centre

The Muni Arts Centre is where it's at for a dose of culture. This vibrant venue hosts a variety of performances, from comedy nights and live theatre to eclectic music gigs. Keep an eye on their schedule because you never know when you might catch the next big thing. And with its cosy atmosphere, every show feels like a special event.

5. Get Arty at the Artis Community Cymuned

Feeling creative? The Artis Community Cymuned offers a range of creative workshops and classes for all ages. Whether you fancy trying your hand at music, film, or even dance, there's something to spark your artistic flair. It's a fantastic way to meet locals and immerse yourself in the vibrant community spirit. Their summer school is for those aged 8-18, led by professional dancers, musicians and film artists from the Ransack Dance Company.

6. Have Fun at Barry Sidings Countryside Park

Barry Sidings Countryside Park is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. Its mountain biking trails, scenic walks, and adventure playground make it the perfect place for a family day out. Pack a picnic, bring your bikes, and let the adventures begin. Or, check out Barry Sidings Café, which has become a foodie destination for burgers and loaded fries.

7. Explore the Surrounding Countryside

Pontypridd is perfectly positioned for some fabulous day trips. Venture out to the Brecon Beacons for breathtaking hikes and waterfalls that look like they've leapt straight out of a postcard. Take a short drive to the Rhondda Heritage Park for an underground tour of a real coal mine - it's a fascinating glimpse into Wales' industrial past. Or head to the beach. Some of our favourites are Barry Island and Rest Bay in Porthcawl.
